Brisbane continues its love affair with Italian dining with Lorenzo Nobilio set to open Osteria Epoca in Yeronga. From salami

Brisbane continues its love affair with Italian dining with Lorenzo Nobilio set to open Osteria Epoca in Yeronga.

From salami pizza at Beccofino to butterflied spatchcock at Otto, Brisbane has a full plate of Italian restaurants. But there’s always an appetite for more, as two new eateries testify.

Opening in November, in a former post office on Orontes Rd, is Osteria Epoca in Yeronga. Owner-chef Lorenzo Nobilio draws inspiration from the big, rowdy gatherings of his childhood, where food and family converged under a sprawling New Farm Queenslander.

“There’d be a whole pig cooked over a wood fire in the backyard, and of course lots of pasta and antipasto to share,” he says. Slow-cooked porchetta will also be a highlight at the new venture, along with pastas and mains that will change monthly. The “Leave it to Lorenzo” menu is a fuss-free, family-style feast of the best of that day’s offerings.

The restaurant’s dining room takes up the middle level of the building, spilling out to a back deck. Up a couple of stairs is the alimentari (provisions store) and a 10-seat salumi bar, while an espresso machine in the window catches your eye on the footpath. The bar occupies the lower level.

But perhaps the best seat in the house will be in the park across the road. Nobilio will have blankets and bocce sets available for use, echoing another of his childhood memories.

A true trifecta of tastiness. Everyone loves a one-stop-shop — and if you live around Yeronga way, you’re going to

A true trifecta of tastiness.

Everyone loves a one-stop-shop — and if you live around Yeronga way, you’re going to love the new addition to Orontes Road. When it opens its doors in late October, Osteria Epoca will offer food fiends a restaurant, cafe and provisions store all in one. We know you can count: that’s three reasons to stop by.

The trifecta of tastiness is a labour of love for chef Lorenzo Nobilio, so much so that he’s starting the venture with his partner Natalie Fraser and her parents. The ex-Bistro Alegria kitchen wiz and Ash + Monties owner’s side of the family will get some recognition in a menu that reflects his late grandmother’s hearty, homemade food, and in the general neighbourhood vibe the Italian eatery aims to cultivate.

Think the kind of place that welcomes leisurely feasts of pasta, bread and more at its osteria, is ideal for a quick wine and a share plate at its cafe, and includes a salumi counter and bar in its alimentari. Nope, you won’t be looking for excuses to call in — once you’re there, you’ll be scrambling to justify leaving.
